Wildlife Photography workshop

April 18th - Mt Field National Park - Tasmania

Thank you so much for your interest in our upcoming Wildlife Photography Workshop at Mount Field National Park on 18 April 2026.

This full-day experience has been thoughtfully designed as a relaxed, slow-paced and supportive workshop, giving you the time and space to develop your wildlife photography skills in a calm and inspiring environment. Rather than rushing between locations, the day focuses on learning by doing, allowing you to practice techniques, ask questions, and build confidence behind the camera.

To ensure a personalised experience and to minimise stress on the wildlife we photograph, the workshop is limited to just three participants. This small group size allows for more one-on-one guidance throughout the day while helping us maintain a respectful, low-impact presence around the animals.

On the day we will cover…

Learn how to confidently use your camera settings for wildlife photography, including shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and focus modes. We’ll discuss how different settings affect your images and how to quickly adjust in changing conditions.

Understanding Your Camera

Discover how to improve your chances of finding wildlife by learning how to read the environment, recognise animal signs, and move quietly and respectfully through natural habitats.

Wildlife spotting techniques

Explore ways to create more compelling images through thoughtful composition, use of light, framing, and storytelling in your photographs.

Compopsition tips and tricks

Responsible wildlife photography is at the heart of this workshop. We’ll discuss best practices for photographing animals without disturbing them and how to prioritise their wellbeing while still capturing meaningful images.

What the day will look like…

Although timing is important, Our day will be flexible as wildlife is unpredictable (I will be happy to sit and photograph anything we come across as long as we need :) but this is a rough timeframe for where and what we might get up too!

  • Leaving early will give us the best chance to see wildlife and also beat the crowds. On the drive, we will discuss photography experience, goals for the workshop and get everyone on the same page.

Pick up locations will be determined once bookings are made, as we are able to collect people from Hobart to New Norfolk.

  • When we arrive we will talk about the best camera settings for wildlife/ shooting in lower light areas.

  • We will start the day with the easy short walk to the iconic Russel Falls, on the way we will chat about wildlife photography ethics, while we look for Platypus, Lyrebirds and Currawongs etc.

  • After a morning tea we will head up to the tall trees walk, do the 1km look track while looking for endemic birds, Eastern Quolls, echidnas and Pink Robins.

  • Time for a free wonder around the park, time to try out the new wildlife spotting skills and ask Monica any questions.

  • Time for lunch, provided by the waterfall café, we can sit down and chat about the morning and make plans for the afternoon.

  • Heading up to Styx Valley for another chance to spot some birds and learn about forests.

  • After the short walks of the Styx Valley, we will start heading back to Hobart. In the car we can chat about the day and go over images.

Depending on time we can stop in at Westerway to have another go at platypus spotting!

Who is this workshop for?

This tour would be suitable for beginner to intermediate photographers, who want to see beautiful Tassie forests and like a challenge of spotting some wildlife.

All the walks we will be doing are flat and stable, there may be some slight inclines and stairs but as long as you are comfortable spending time on your feet, that is all you will need to enjoy the day!

One of the best things about Tassie is how accessible wildlife and nature is and I am really excited to show that off while teaching photography.

Applications will open March 16th!
